Lock up your little ones, for this is a tale of woe and terror.  You see, it all started a long time ere now, when a young swashbuckler named Jason Van Over organized a group of Buccaneers to participate in the SCUFFLE, with hopes of commandeering the ultimate prize - the championship trophy.

Despite his growing legend on the high seas, Van Over could not assemble and maintain a group of suitable Pirates, and bad luck followed him at every turn.  He suffered the ultimate misfortune, and was named the worst team in the world.  He was ultimately usurped in a bloody mutiny, and left on a deserted island with a small arm and one shot.  He was replaced by the engineer of the mutiny, Jason Enright, the ruthless and daring boatswain.


Enright was immediately met with success, turning the fortunes of his crew around.  However, unbeknownst to him, he had been cursed.  To perform mutiny is the worst violation that a pirate can commit, and Van Over's ghost would not rest until things were set right.  Enright and his Pirates would forever be victorious during the regular season, only to lose in the playoffs.  To come so close to the ultimate prize, only to have it ripped out of your grasp year in and year out is truly more punishment than being the worst team in the world.

To this very day, Enright suffers from the terrible curse:  his Pirates have won more games than nearly anyone, yet have never won a playoff game.  Enright must somehow placate the spirit of Van Over, lest the curse live on for eternity!
